The Blue Mountains is my home away from home, I spent most of my childhood here and have many tips for the best things to see. I have a lot of memories but unfortunately few photos, so apologies in advance for the lack of photographic evidence.

Top things to see/do

  1. The Three Sisters of course, one of the main tourist attractions of the Blue Mountains
  2. Hikes & nature trails (see list below for more detail)
  3. Megalong Valley & the Megalong Valley Tea Rooms
  4. Scenic World – experience the steepest passenger railway in the world, take a glassfloor cabin above the forest, have a short hike through native bush
  5. Leura – the food, shops & candy store here are an experience to have
  6. Visit the Hydromajestic – impressive architecture and an even more impressive view
  7. Katoomba – the main town here, with many cafes, pubs & restaurants on offer
  8. Blue Mountains Cultural Centre – this centre has a great Australian art collection & an interactive museum of the natural/social history of the Blue Mountains
  9. Lithgow Glow Worm Caves

Top hikes & trails

  1. The hike to the ruined castle – one of my favourite Australian hikes. Walk through Australian bush to a truly special rock formation (the ruined castle) that has a view of the surrounding valley. Moderate difficulty
  2. Leura Cascades – a very easy walk through beautiful cascades
  3. Three Sisters Walking Track
  4. Giant Stairway
  5. Govetts Leap Lookout
  6. Evans Lookout
