The Blue Mountains is my home away from home, I spent most of my childhood here and have many tips for the best things to see. I have a lot of memories but unfortunately few photos, so apologies in advance for the lack of photographic evidence.
Top things to see/do
- The Three Sisters of course, one of the main tourist attractions of the Blue Mountains
- Hikes & nature trails (see list below for more detail)
- Megalong Valley & the Megalong Valley Tea Rooms
- Scenic World – experience the steepest passenger railway in the world, take a glassfloor cabin above the forest, have a short hike through native bush
- Leura – the food, shops & candy store here are an experience to have
- Visit the Hydromajestic – impressive architecture and an even more impressive view
- Katoomba – the main town here, with many cafes, pubs & restaurants on offer
- Blue Mountains Cultural Centre – this centre has a great Australian art collection & an interactive museum of the natural/social history of the Blue Mountains
- Lithgow Glow Worm Caves
Top hikes & trails
- The hike to the ruined castle – one of my favourite Australian hikes. Walk through Australian bush to a truly special rock formation (the ruined castle) that has a view of the surrounding valley. Moderate difficulty
- Leura Cascades – a very easy walk through beautiful cascades
- Three Sisters Walking Track
- Giant Stairway
- Govetts Leap Lookout
- Evans Lookout
